DJI Phantom II
Cue the music, “The Phantom of the office is here!” This version of the popular musical melody could be heard in the office due to the arrival of the quad-copter, which lifted spirits around here. In our frame of mind, we all felt propelled to celebrate.
While we’re trading across the country, we’ll be producing videos following our journey as well as explaining trading concepts. Of course, some aerial shots could really add to the production value so we ordered this remote-controlled helicopter to capture those wide sweeping landscapes.
Our new DJI Phantom 2 is here, and we are so excited! Yesterday we couldn’t wait to open up the box and get started, until it came to putting it together. Following instructions doesn’t come as easily as trading around here. Mike, our creative director, spent 3 hours tightening little screws, picking out pieces, and matching them together.
While putting the drone together was a bit of a chore, flying it was a real treat! Test flying was way more fun than constructing. With the anticipation rising, we gathered together in the parking lot for take off. Up, up, up it went and then down, down, down it fell back to the ground. Realizing the unforgiving surface of the parking lot might be a bad place to practice, we moved our testing grounds to the grass to prevent any damage. Mike quickly got the hangar of it and we were completely blown away by how smoothly it flew! It was fun to watch how easily and steadily it moved through the air. We all took a spin at the controllers and are excited to see the footage it captures on our trip. We are convinced that having it along for the ride is going to add fun to our miles and will improve our videos significantly.
We will write more about learning how to fly this. For now, I apologize for the bad flying puns. It’s plane that they kind of nose dived, but hey, I tried!
